One of them has found her timing
Stefanini came through qualifying without dropping a set: Ayla Aksu 6-2 6-3, the awkward Madison Brengle by the same score, then the teenage home hope Julieta Pareja 6-4 6-3. Two hands on both wings, contact taken early, opponents pushed back before they can settle — nothing spectacular, everything on time.
Yastremska's summer reads differently. Tatjana Maria dismantled her in Cincinnati 1-6 2-6, and in Monterrey she opened 6-2 against Janice Tjen before the match slid away to a deciding tiebreak. The power still arrives in bursts; the control leaves the room around the middle of the second set.
The ball that has to be hit one more time
Stefanini's whole plan is repetition with depth: redirect early, deny the inside-court position, force Yastremska to hit the winner twice. Against a player currently accelerating from bad positions, that patience turns into break points fairly quickly.
The risk is honest — nobody in qualifying served or returned with Yastremska's speed, and thunderstorms could chop the rhythm Stefanini has built. At this price, the Italian's current form is worth the leap of faith.
